Revolutionary Wireless Environmental Monitoring System to Release in May 2017

Published 03 November 2016 | By Vaisala pbr

In the summer 2016, Vaisala announced the latest build of their environmental monitoring system viewLinc. The newest device in the system, VaiNet, will begin shipping in May of 2017 and will feature unmatched signal strength.

Ideal for monitoring complex environments, the new wireless technology, VaiNet, uses low frequency bands in order to take monitoring data off already busy wireless networks in many industrial temperature and humidity monitoring applications.

Research and Development engineer John Bekema says:

We started out by looking at existing technologies for wireless monitoring devices. Then we set high goals to create a data logger that solves many of the issues common to these devices. First, we wanted long-range signal strength, especially for large, high traffic environments. Second, we needed reliability in point-to-point communications, meaning devices are not dependent upon each other, and no single point of failure in a network will result in lost data. Finally we wanted a logger with very low power consumption. And, it had to use standard batteries that are easy to switch out.

This has all been achieved with the Vaisala VaiNet RFL100 data logger. The VaiNet system features signal strength exceeding 10m, using new wireless protocols that allow the signal to propagate in busy, heavily loaded environments, without signal amplifiers. The VaiNet system is a discrete network, taking the data off often-crowded existing networks.
